With an eye looking towards the future, Premier League giants Arsenal are thought to have joined the race to sign Sassuolo’s up-and-coming young midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini.
The 20-year-old Pellegrini has been wowing fans and pundits alike with his impressive performances this season. Despite his relatively young age, the former Roma central midfielder has shown incredible potential so far – his ability to score from deep and from set pieces proving to be a highlight.
Indeed, the Italian starlet has already scored seven goals and assisted in five more in his 27 appearances in all competitions for Sassuolo thus far, a commendable achievement for a player his age – and it seems Arsenal are keen to bring such promising talent to London.
True enough, according to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, the Gunners have signalled their intention to reel in the Rome-born midfielder to the Emirates Stadium come the summer have the English side have sent scouts to watch the player in action.
Arsenal, however, are expected to find stiff competition from Italian heavyweights Juventus, who are also eager to snap up the Sassuolo youngster. The Bianconeri are of the belief that Pellegrini can be a valuable asset for their side in the future and are willing to make a credible offer for the starlet in the summer.
Pellegrini, who currently plays for Italy’s U21 side, does have a clause in his contract which allows former club Roma to bring him back to the Italian capital. The cost of the clause is thought to be valued at €10m (roughly £8m), and Giallorossi are pondering about buying back their academy product.
While it remains uncertain as to where Pellegrini will eventually end up before the next season kicks off, the transfer tussle between these three big European sides will definitely by an entertaining watch.
Pellegrini’s contract with Sassuolo is set to last until 2020.
