Premier League giants Arsenal are thought to be bracing for life without star winger Alexis Sanchez after reports have emerged the London club are eyeing a move for Atletico Madrid’s energetic wide man Yannick Carrasco.
If reports across England are to be believed, it is mooted that Gunners star Alexis Sanchez is on his way out of the Emirates Stadium. The Chilean international’s contract is set to expire in June 2018 and time is clearly running out for Arsenal.
The former Barcelona speedster is thought to be holding out on a deal as he is considering his options after the club failed to secure Champions League last season. Like sharks smelling blood, Premier League rivals Manchester City and Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on the situation and are likely to make a bid for Sanchez in the coming weeks.
As a contingency for Sanchez’s imminent departure, Arsenal have already sent scouts to eye Atletico Madrid Yannick Carrasco.
Carrasco, 23, has had a commendable campaign for Los Rojiblancos last season, scoring ten goals and assisting in four more in 35 league appearances. With his pace and work rate, Arsenal see the Belgian winger as the ideal replacement for the outgoing Alexis Sanchez, according to Italian sports outlet Calcio Mercato.
Atletico, understandably, aren’t keen on letting go of one of their key players and have maintained they have no intention to negotiate with any club for Carrasco. If the Belgium international is indeed to leave the Estadio Vicente Calderon during the upcoming transfer window, it would be because his transfer clause was triggered, which appears unlikely.
After all, wide-man’s release clause is thought to be set at £86-million, and the footballer certainly isn’t worth that much money even in such an inflated financial climate.
According to insiders, however, the Ixelles city native has a market value closer to £34-million, and Arsenal may write a check close to that amount in an effort to persuade Atletico to sell Carrasco.
Of course, whether the La Liga club will yield to Arsenal’s planned offer, or if the bid will even be officially tabled, is still far from certain.
Carrasco has a contract with Atletico Madrid until 2022.
